IIoT in China
January 11, 2019
According to the latest research and forecasts, by 2025 the world will have almost 14 billion connections to the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), and one third of them will be in China.

These studies are based on analytical data of the Ministry of Industry and Information of China, China Securities, Citic Bank and other authoritative sources, including the largest mobile operators in the Far East, such as China Mobile, China Telecom, China Unicom, Asia Pacific Telecom Group, and Taiwan Mobile.

The results provide detailed information on how artificial intelligence (AI), data analytics and high-speed Internet communication will revolutionise the industrial sector of the Far Eastern region.
New and emerging technologies in this field will fundamentally change our way of life, intelligently connecting almost all electronic devices, making the cities we live in smarter and our life easier.
China pays special attention to the ability of IIoT to improve efficiency and increase productivity, which can be achieved through the integration of Internet-related automated processes into manufacturing. Full support of the plan by the Chinese government and its significant resources are the main reasons to expect China's dominance in this sector in the near future.

Strategy

China's intentions to actively invest in the IIoT were outlined in Made in China 2025 strategic plan, which aims to stimulate innovation in production and transform the country into a powerful innovation center over the next decade. The strategy was launched together with Internet Plus plan containing the perspective on Internet infrastructure, which proposed to significantly broaden the area of integration of big data, cloud computing, mobile Internet and IoT into the existing production network.

The role of mobile operators

Mobile operators in China will play a key role in the technical transformation of the country, as they will be required to provide reliable, smart and secure connectivity to businesses across China. They will also be actively involved in the development of IIoT technologies in this sector, providing vital assistance to industry, government and municipal organisations.

Summary

Eurasia Development Ltd. conducted its own market research of IIoT in China and prepared an infographic.

The market for Industrial Internet of Things in China is developing rapidly. In the next couple of years, it will occupy almost a quarter of the entire IoT market of the country. By the end of 2019, the volume of China's IIoT market will reach 380 billion CNY (56 billion USD), and the average annual growth rate will be 14%. Most active IIoT technical solutions are used in aircraft construction, electrical appliances, oil and gas, automotive and heavy industries, medicine and other areas. GE, Amazon, Microsoft, Intel, Siemens provide a wide range of services in the Chinese market, but local companies, such as Alibaba, Tencent, Haier and others are developing their own solutions and increasing sales volumes.

We consider Chinese IIoT market to be one of the most promising in the entire world and are confident that foreign companies and developers have great opportunities to enter and operate in this market. Currently China is experiencing serious shortage of personnel and technical solutions that can be imported from abroad. Current situation is favorable for foreign players, but it is necessary to take into account the local specifics and try to minimize the risks.
